Tutorial: Simple Havok Copying for Your Clutter/Miscellaneous Objects

(Continued...)

5) REMOVING THE OLD MESH PARTS

Now we will remove the unused book mesh parts. Select the “6 NiTriStrip” block in the left window (that’s the book cover), right click on this and do “Block” “Remove Branch”. {Sample Picture 9} . Note that Nifscope has automatically updated the hirachy number next to the NiTriStrips, so the numbers next to the NiTriStrips changed. To make sure you delete the correct mesh parts, click on it in the Nifscope view window and the corresponding NiTriStrips will be selected in the left window. Now, click on the book interior part and delete its NiTriStrips block the same way you just did for the book’s cover (“Block” and “Remove Branch”).

You are going to be left with your model sitting on top of the book sized moveable collision mesh (i.e. the blue line box you see in this picture) {Sample Picture 10}

(Tips: Don’t see the blue box like in the picture? From the Nifscope tool bar click “Render” and “Draw Havok”. Is your mesh way off center compared to the Havok box? Make sure that when you exported your mesh from your 3d program it was centered at an X,Y,Z of 0,0,0)

6) RESIZING THE MOVEABLE COLLISION MESH TO FIT YOUR MODEL AND POSITIONING

Now we just need to re-size the moveable collision mesh to fit my Poly the Pig model.

Expand the “bhkCollisionObject” block by clicking on the plus sign next to it and find and click on the “BHKBoxShape”. In the Block Details window below, you will see a line that says “Dimensions Vector 3” with some X, Y and Z coordinates. Changing those XYZ’s will resize the collision mesh. {Sample Picture 11} .

Double click on the X, Y, Z coordinates and it will open up 3 boxes that let you change the numbers. Lets change “z” from .4363 to 1.9. You can see that the height of the collision mesh has increased {Sample Picture 12} . To get this mesh the right size for Poly the Pig, I will change “x” to 1.3 and “y” to 2.7. Experiment to get the right size for your own model. Now the collision mesh is the right size, but it is off-center from my model. {Sample Picture 13} . This collision mesh is extra simple, lacking the block to enable moving it around, so I will just move my Pig model down into it.

Click on your model again in the Nifscope window, it will highlight the NiTriStrips block associated with it. When its NiTriStrip is highlighted, look down below at the “Block Details and find “Translation Vector 3” with some X,Y and Z coordinates. Changing those X,Y,Z’s will move the position of your model. {Sample Picture 14} Double click on the X, Y, Z coordinates and it will open up 3 boxes that let you change the numbers. I will change “x” to 0, “y” to 2.6 and “z” to .80 Now Poly the Pig has been moved down and the moveable collision mesh fits! {Sample Picture 15} . We are almost done.
